Udinese coach Sottil highlights Samardzic ahead of Atalanta test

Udinese coach Andrea Sottil says the players are relishing today's clash with Atalanta.

The match is a huge one for both teams and their European aspirations.

Sottil said, “The lads can't wait for the Atalanta game. They're fired up but keeping their focus. We've had a great week of preparation, with the players hitting the ground running every day. The way you train impacts on how your next game goes. We're aware that we need to keep up this good form.

“We're not afraid of Atalanta. They're a team I know well, even if there's a new owner at the helm. I think Gian Piero Gasperini is a top coach. He's full of charisma and great ideas and knows how to implement them.

Atalanta are on a great run, just as we are. Given the context of this game you can't imagine football being any better – a packed stadium, passionate fans and both teams' current form. Tomorrow's game is set to be quite the occasion.

“Our league position is relative. Of course it's great to be high up in the table but we need to keep this up. Our thoughts are on Atalanta, not what's come before. We need to focus on what we do and give our all.

“In terms of the team, I haven't decided yet and if I've got doubts on who to pick the evening before the game then it's a sign that all of the players are working hard. While footballers love starting games they should know that a substitute's role is also pivotal.

“As for individuals, I've been really impressed with Lazar Samardzic. He's got off to a great start. He's blessed with great technique and vision and is set to have a great career. What's more, he's keen to improve. His team-mates hold him in high regard.

“I love every game we have at Dacia Arena. The fans create a great atmosphere and the players deserve this."
