Schalke defender Atsuto Uchida is set for a battle over ownership of his side's right full-back position after the arrival of Brazilian Junior Caicara from Bulgarian club Ludogorets Razgrad.
Japan international Uchida has made over 100 appearances for Schalke since joining the club in 2010but will face stiff competition for a first team spot next season following Caicara's arrival last Friday.
The Brazilian has joined Schalke for a transfer fee of around €5million after spending three seasons in Bulgaria.
Schalke director of sport, Horst Heldt, noted the importance of competition for places in the squad.
"We saw how important it is to have equal alternatives for every position last season," Heldt told the club's official website.
"With Junior Caicara, we have another right fullback on the roster besides Atsuto Uchida, and that is sure to help us."
