San Jose Earthquakes have brought Turkish striker Sercan Guvenisik on trial as they plan to cover for the absent Chris Wondolowski.
The Quakes will lose their leading scorer for the next four or so weeks, as he undergoes USA national team duties at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, so wanted to bring in a replacement as soon as possible.
Preussen Munster's 31-year old German-born forward Guvenisik has already started a week-long trial as he goes about finding a new club, preferably in MLS.
Quakes coach Frank Yallop said the club would have been stupid not to have taken a closer look at Guvenisik who has spent his entire career in Europe.
"He wanted to come in for a look, and it was no cost to us to have him in, so we agreed," said Yallop.
"He looked good today and we'll see how he does the rest of the week. We are always looking and trying to improve the team. So any chance you get to look at a guy like Sercan you have to."
