Townsend scores twice as Tottenham U21s fall to Chelsea in nine-goal thriller

Tottenham's out-of-favour winger Andros Townsend scored a brace in the U-21 side's thrilling 4-5 defeat to Chelsea U-21 on Monday.

Spurs played catch-up for a large duration of the game and found themselves trailing 2-1 at half-time at Stevenage after Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori scored either side of Shaq Coulthirst's equaliser.

The Blues cemented their grip on the game by extending their lead to two goals two minutes after the break as Kasey Palmer headed home but Spurs made it 3-2 when Coulthirst scored his second of the contest.

With Tottenham trailing 4-2 with just eight minutes left in the game, Townsend stepped up to score a quick-fire brace to give his side parity by the 88th minute but Spurs' celebrations didn't last long as Jake Clarke-Salter clinched the result for his side in the fourth minute of injury-time in what was a scintillating affair at Broadhall Way.
