Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is closing in on Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone.

The Birmingham Mail says the 22-year-old has been made available by Harry Redknapp and it is understood that a move to Villa Park could be imminent.

O'Neill sees Huddlestone as a cut-price replacement for Gareth Barry and he could yet be joined at Villa by winger David Bentley, who is also available in Spurs' summer sale.

Huddlestone is understood to be keen on the switch and sees Villa as the ideal platform to push his international ambitions.
