Jermain Defoe's groin injury was caused by a weight-training machine, reports The Sun. The 27 year old Tottenham striker feared his Euro 2012 qualifying hopes were wrecked and was due to have surgery last Tuesday - three days before his hat-trick against Bulgaria.
Yet Tottenham's medical team found out the problem was caused by a machine used to strengthen his stomach muscles.
And since avoiding the device, the injury - for now at least - has gone.
Defoe scored in the 4-0 win over Young Boys 13 days ago to earn Spurs a Champions League place.
He also played all 90 minutes in the 1-0 loss to Wigan and, after no further niggles, made himself available for England.
