Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want to complete the signing of Ross Barkley from Everton within the next week, according to the Mirror.

Spurs were widely expected to be strengthening their squad this summer in order to mount another challenge for the Premier League title but to the surprise of many, the north London club have not brought in a single new player as of yet.

Barkley has widely been speculated as the main target for manager Mauricio Pochettino but the transfer has not come into fruition as Tottenham are unwilling to match his £50m asking price.

Despite the deadlock, Pochettino is said to have told his chairman Daniel Levy that Barkley is his number one target and Tottenham will now look to wrap up a deal for the England international within the next week.
