Tottenham trophy drought continues as Middlesbrough seal deserved FA Cup victory

Tottenham Hotspur will finish another season without a trophy after losing to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fifth-round on Tuesday.

Make no mistake, the Championship side were the better team from start to finish as they gave the raucous Riverside crowd something to cheer about.

Chris Wilder's side have now beaten Manchester United and Spurs on their way to the FA Cup quarter-finals.

After a lacklustre first-half, Boro took the ascendancy and should have won the game in normal time as Matt Crooks and Jonny Howson missed glorious chances.

The visitors had their chances as well as Son Heung-min almost flicked in for Spurs in the first-half of extra-time.

But the decisive goal came after 107 minutes when substitute Emerson Royal played Josh Coburn onside from a Crooks pass before the Englishman rifled a shot past Hugo Lloris.

Spurs have now gone 14 years without a trophy and it remains unclear if Antonio Conte will stick around long enough to end their drought.
