Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to secure Jan Vertonghen to a brand new contract.
According to the London Evening Standard, Spurs are determined to land the 28-year-old Belgian for the long-term by increasing his wages on his current deal.
Centre-half Vertonghen is contracted until the summer of 2018 but is a key figure at White Hart Lane and the North London club want to keep him for the future.
Vertonghen, who has been sidelined with a medial ligament injury since late January, is currently on £39,000-a-week and is likely to be offered closer to £50,000 in a bid to keep him in a Spurs shirt for the next few years and beyond.
