Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe rates Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole as the best in the world.

Defoe was the hero as England beat Slovenia to set up a last-16 clash with the Germans.

But the striker says Cole has been the star for England.

Defoe said: "For me, Ashley is the best in the world. He is brilliant.

"His energy is unbelievable. To have that consistency at the top level for so long is special."
