Tottenham star Kane leaps to defence of England boss Southgate

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has leapt to the defence of England boss Gareth Southgate.

Fans were critical of Southgate for his supposedly negative tactics and team selection in the goalless draw with Denmark in the Nations League on Tuesday.

"If you're England manager, you're always going to come under certain scrutiny at times, but we're a strong group, we know what we're aiming towards," said Kane.

"We're still in a good position in the Nations League and obviously the Euros is the main objective coming up. "We've just got to stick to ourselves. People are going to talk — that is what fans do and media do — but if we can keep a strong head and strong discipline on what we want to achieve, then we can go and do that.

"We're at a stage of the season coming up to a big Euros and we wanted to try something new. I thought we played quite well and if we had nicked it at the end, people would have been talking differently."
