Toby Alderweireld has played down claims that he is the best central defender in the Premier League.
The Belgium international has been rated by many as the competition's best centre-half stemming from his impressive performances for Tottenham Hotspur this season but the 27-year-old certainly does not see it that way.
"I'm really happy, so I'm just trying to keep my level until the end of the season," he said.
"Am I the best defender in the league?
"It's their [other people's] right to say that, but I don't feel that way. I'm just trying to help the team and do my best.
"I don't like to talk about myself - other people are paid to do that. I try to do my best on the pitch."
Alderweireld's efforts in his debut season for Tottenham has the North London club sitting second on the Premier League table, five points behind the high-flying Leicester City with seven fixtures remaining.
