Tottenham skipper Lloris: Why Hojbjerg has been so important

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris believes Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been a key signing for the club.

The 25-year-old has impressed in central midfield since arriving from Southampton in the summer.

Spurs are quietly enjoying an excellent start to the season, as they are only two points off league leaders Liverpool.

They managed a 2-1 win over Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday.

"Pierre has been doing an amazing job right from the beginning," Lloris said in the matchday programme for the game.

"He has had a big impact because of his personality, and he shows his ability and quality every day on the field.

"He is committed and ready to help the team. He is pushing us. We are all going in the same way and we try to get the best out of each other.

"There are a lot of players in the squad, it is a competitive one and everyone is trying to get the best out of one another. That is part of football - competition is everywhere.

"We are still a long way from where we want to be. As I say, we are trying to find a consistency and a rhythm in our performances and results.

"We take that game by game and we will see later in the season where we will be, but we have great ambition - that is clear."
