Tottenham rival Man Utd for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Oblak

Tottenham are ready to rival Manchester United for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak as a replacement for Hugo Lloris.

The Evening Standard says Spurs have identified Oblak as a primary target and have 'sounded him out' about a potential move next summer - with second-choice Fraser Forster not considered capable of stepping up.

The 139-cap France international Lloris has now spent a decade at Spurs, but is expected to leave north London when his contract expires in summer 2024, when he will be 37.

Lloris, who signed that two-year deal in January, is still a reliable and consistent option, but he is in the latter stages of his career and manager Conte has discussed the situation with club chief Fabio Paratici.

Although the 29-year-old, into his ninth year in the Spanish capital, has six years left on his contract but Atletico are thought to be willing to speak to interested parties.

Oblak is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, with Manchester United also reportedly set to compete for his signature.

There is uncertainty over the future of current No 1 David de Gea, with last season's deputy Dean Henderson on loan at Nottingham Forest amid concerns about his lack of game time at Old Trafford.
