Tottenham plotting double Wigan raid for England youth duo

Tottenham are plotting a double raid on cash-strapped Wigan Athletic.

The Sun says Tottenham are looking to benefit from Wigan's financial crisis by signing England youth internationals Joe Gelhardt and Jensen Weir.

The Championship club entered administration on Wednesday and a 12-point penalty will be imposed this season if they finish above the drop zone, or next season if they end 2019-20 in the bottom three.

With relegation a strong possibility, the Latics could struggle to keep hold of their most talented youngsters and Spurs are hoping to capitalise with a double deal.

Gelhardt has made 17 appearances and has scored one goal during his breakthrough season at the DW Stadium, attracting attention from scouts at Spurs and Everton.

The forward has picked up six caps and scored three goals for England Under-18s.

Weir, son of Everton icon David, is also wanted by Spurs, and Wigan administrators have confirmed they have received an official approach for both players.
