Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason has welcomed praise from Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.
Scholes saw "no reason why Mason should not be in the next senior England squad".
Asked if he felt ready, Mason told the London Evening Standard: "You never know unless you get the chance but I'd like to think so.
"Scholes's words put a smile on my face. To get praise from someone like is an honour, and means a lot. He was [Spurs academy chief] John McDermott's favourite player and when he read those words, he sent me a text telling me I could retire now. I count myself as a goalscoring midfielder, so I'd be mad not to look at players like Scholes, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard. I can take a lot from their style of play and how they went about the game."
