Tottenham manager Mourinho reveals Bale took himself off in Stoke win

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho says striker Gareth Bale decided to come off against Stoke City in the Carabao Cup.

Spurs claimed a 3-1 win over the Championship side in the quarter finals, booking their place in the last four.

They now have a semi against Brentford, with Bale scoring one of the goals in their win over Stoke on Wednesday.

Bale came off at half time, and Mourinho confirms the player chose to sub himself off after feeling a problem in his calf.

"It was his decision," Mourinho told reporters.

"Something he felt in the last part of the first half and he didn't want to come out before the second half so he stayed.

"While he was walking to the dressing room he told me immediately that he couldn't come [out] for the second half.

"Something I think with [his] calf. I'm not sure as at that time I just want to reorganise the team and make the change."
