Tottenham were left frustrated by Club Brugge after failing to complete the sale of Victor Wanyama.
Het Laatste Nieuws says Wanyama's exit from the north London club was scuppered due to Club Brugge signing Eder Balanta from Basel.
The 26-year-old Colombian defensive midfielder signed on a three-year dale for a fee believed to be around £2.4m.
Wanyama had reportedly been offered a four-year deal to join the Belgian side but on a considerably less wage than his current £65,000-a-week salary.
The anchorman only made 13 league appearances last season and still faces the difficult prospect of out performing new signing Tanguy Ndombele, Mousa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Eric Dier, who are all ahead of him for a starting spot in the team.
