Tottenham left-back Reguilon thanks Redknapp for defending him against Keane

Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilon has thanked Jamie Redknapp for defending him against criticism from Roy Keane last week.

Before their 4-0 thrashing of Burnley last weekend, Keane and Redknapp were embroiled in a heated debate about Jose Mourinho's players live on air.

Keane declared that the Spurs squad is full of "so many average players" outside of top scorers Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Redknapp, however, replied: "Reguilon is as good a left-back as there is in the country so I think you've got that wrong."

Keane goaded his colleague by replying: "Is that why Real Madrid let him go? Why did Real Madrid let him go?"

To which Redknapp then reiterated: "Does that matter? Just because Real Madrid let him go that doesn't make him a good player? He's a fantastic left-back!"

Reguilon has now had his say on the row.

"This is Roy Keane's opinion but we have a lot of top-class players who can play in every team," Reguilon later replied.

"We have the best players but thank you, Jamie, for defending me.

"It was so funny - he was really angry. I watched that and smiled a lot, it was very nice."
