Tottenham lead 5 Prem club battle for West Brom keeper Johnstone

The race West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is set to intensify.

The Sun says Johnstone is being tracked by FIVE Premier League sides.

Johnstone missed West Brom's last five games after telling boss Steve Bruce he would not sign a new deal and that he intended to leave as a free agent.

And that has sparked a scramble for his services, with Spurs among the clubs that have made contact.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte wants a back-up to No 1 and club skipper Hugo Lloris.

That is after telling on-loan Pierluigi Gollini that he will be returning to Atalanta.

Johnstone fits the bill in a season where Spurs hope to be back in the Champions League but will also be disrupted by the demands of the first winter World Cup.

And the keeper is also on the radar of Newcastle, West Ham, Leicester - where Kasper Schmeichel is about to enter the final year of his contract - and Brighton.

Former Manchester United man Johnstone, 29, spent seven years on the Old Trafford books before joining the Baggies in 2018.
