Tottenham keeper Gomes: I'll be better for tough first season

Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes says he'll be better for his first season in England.

He said: "I never considered leaving Spurs because I feel I can have a good career here in England.

"I believed I could turn things around - maybe it happened a bit later than I wanted. I am in good form and when the team are playing better, it helps me.

"It is my first season and you need time to adapt. The team didn't start well and it was difficult for us. Next season we can go for a Champions League place as we already have the players who can achieve it.

"There was no particular time when I thought I had turned it around. I regained fitness after playing for a long time with injury.'' Gomes also believes that many mistakes he was crucified for were down to him having more bottle than some other keepers.

He explained: "A lot of keepers don't make as many mistakes because they don't try as hard. They don't always have the courage to try to get to the ball when it seems impossible.

"A goalkeeper has to be decisive and has to have courage. I'm not afraid to make a mistake by trying hard.''
