Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel, according to reports from Calciomercato.

Spurs have started off their campaign in fine fashion but despite the promising beginning, manager Mauricio Pochettino is said to be looking to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window in order to aid their top four chances.

Among the many players linked with Tottenham, Zenit star Witsel had been mentioned as a realistic target for Spurs and according to reports from Italy, it has been claimed that the Premier League side are leading the race to sign the Belgian international ahead of Serie A giants AC Milan.
