Tottenham hope to sign Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing for a knockdown fee.
The People says Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is making a cut-price £8million bid to sign Downing from relegated Middlesbrough.
Redknapp is a big fan of the wide man, who captained Boro last season - but he is going in with a small offer for one of the club's largest assets.
The White Hart Lane club face competition from Aston Villa, who have matched their offer.
