Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is chasing Rennes star Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik in a £2million deal.
Redknapp has been alerted that France Under-21 centre-half Biyik could be available on the cheap.
The French club made it clear they will sell following a contract dispute, says the Mirror.
Aston Villa are also watching developments, but fear Tottenham may have already beaten them to Kana-Biyik's signature.
