Tottenham defender Khumalo happy with Preston move

Tottenham defender Bongani Khumalo is happy with his loan move to Preston North End.

Deepdale boss Phil Brown can hardly believe his luck and feels his emergency loan deal is one of the club's most exciting signings since David Beckham - and Bongo will look to have the same sort of impact against Swansea today.

The former Supersport United man - who cost Spurs £1.5million in January - said: "I was fortunate to win three titles in a row in South Africa.

"I want to bring that kind of winning mentality to Preston. That spirit of being champions.

"I haven't had much luck at Tottenham in terms of game time. But it's been amazing to be around that atmosphere and that vibe with the quarter-finals coming up.

"I've learned so much and I want to put everything I have picked up into practice here. I've also played at the highest level at the World Cup. I want to be confident, be a leader from the back and inspire the team here."

Brown said: "To get South Africa's future captain is almost like going back to the David Beckham days.

"It shows what we are capable of at a club which, in some people's eyes, is supposedly down and out."
