Tottenham defender Davies: Sessegnon hook was tactical

Tottenham defender Ben Davies has confirmed Ryan Sessegnon wasn't injured when he was substituted on 28 minutes of Sunday's defeat to Wolves.

Davies had to shift to left-back after just 28 minutes with 21-year-old Sessegnon hooked by manager Antonio Conte as he switched from a 3-4-3 to a 4-2-3-1 formation after Wolves had scored both of their goals.

Sessegnon had to complete a long, dejected walk around the edge of the pitch before the head coach came over to chat to him when he reached the dugout.

"It's never easy for that player when it happens but we're sure it was a tactical decision and we had to go and take the chance," said Davies. "Unfortunately today Sess was that player."

Davies has become an ever-present himself under Conte, who sees in him a similar figure to his former Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta, and the Welshman is enjoying his time learning from the Spurs boss.

"Yes of course. To have the opportunity to work under a world class manager is always nice as a player," he said.

"Sometimes you learn more in the tough times. This is where we have to really take in what he says.

"We know he has the skill-set and the mental ability to make us better players. All we can do is learn from that."
