Tottenham chief Paratici explains Doherty release

Tottenham's football director of football Fabio Paratici spoke about the decision to let Matt Doherty leave.

The former Wolves right wing back was out of favor with coach Antonio Conte.

The defender has signed for Atletico Madrid after the club allowed him to leave on a free transfer.

Speaking about Doherty, Paritici said: “So first of all, I want to thank Doherty because he has been an important player for us and he's a super guy, and so this is my first thought about him.

“Then we have to, I repeat… there is a balance between the squad, the number of players in the squad and the number of players in some positions and when we get this kind of opportunity, Atletico Madrid is a big club, it's a big opportunity even for him so I think it's right to everyone to get this kind of choice."
