Tottenham boss Redknapp: No chance stopping Bent from joining England squad

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says there was no chance of him stopping Darren Bent from playing for England in last night's friendly victory in Germany.

In his column for The Sun, Redknapp wrote: "I wouldn't have wanted to even try to stop Darren Bent from joining up with the squad. I couldn't anyway.

"It was great to see him come on for the second half and a reflection on the form he has been in lately.

"When I was at Portsmouth, we regularly had three or four players in the squad.

"There were three starting last night and Glen Johnson took his chance well. What an achievement for Pompey, maybe it's a record for them. Johnson is pushing hard for the first-team and Gabriel Agbonlahor was such a threat with his pace.

"He was picked for a purpose. Capello saw that Germany are a bit slow at the back and let him loose.

"Now try to keep him down after an experience like last night. The boy was like lightning and Aston Villa will feel the benefit when he gets back to Premier League action."
