Tottenham boss Pochettino: Lloris the halftime Ajax inspiration - not Kane

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says Hugo Lloris was the halftime inspiration for their Champions League comeback at Ajax - and not Harry Kane.

In the immediate aftermath, Kieran Trippier said Kane's furious half-time team talk helped inspire the club stage their remarkable comeback.

But Pochettino doesn't remember the England captain as much to say in the dressing room.

"It surprised me. It wasn't a team talk; he was there like another player who is not involved. Harry was there and translated confidence and emotions," Pochettino said.

"But I was talking. It wasn't a moment to talk too much. Who was talking before we leave to go to the pitch? It was our captain, Hugo Lloris.

"I remember the words of Hugo when I was leaving the dressing room, shouting, 'we are close, never give up'. To be honest I don't remember Harry in the dressing room.

"I think it was the most relaxed half time in the last six months. I was so upset with destiny because the game was even; the only thing that was different was they were clinical. The result was completely unfair at 2-0.

"It wasn't a team talk were I needed to scream and spark the players, because they were very focused. Harry was there listening to us, and I think Trippier loved that Harry was there. But Hugo Lloris was top, before the game too. Hugo was brilliant."
