Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino insists Dele Alli remains the outstanding young midfielder available to England.

England boss Gareth Southgate has been watching exciting Chelsea 19-year-old Mason Mount shine on loan at Derby, while Manchester City 's Phil Foden and fellow 18-year-old Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund were also outstanding in midweek.

But Pochettino insists Alli, 22, remains the cream of the Three Lions' midfield crop.

He reminded Southgate: “Dele is a top player.

“Other players still need to show what they can do. Dele is higher than them.

“He is one of the best in England and he is one of the best in Europe in his position. I hope the experience of being captain for the first time will help him to improve even more."
