Tottenham boss Mourinho on Lloris error: I will not criticise the best keeper in the Prem

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho defended Hugo Lloris after their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

Some had criticised the long-serving Spurs captain after Sunday's all-London clash after he was unsighted by a late Eberechi Eze free-kick that bounced off him before being turned home from close range by Jeffrey Schlupp.

But Mourinho insisted: “My goalkeeper is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League so I would never be critical of the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, period.

“If I have to blame anybody I have to blame ourselves, the team. The ones that win, the ones that draw and the ones that lose. Some guys they have the philosophy of they lost, we drew and I won but that's not us."

Tottenham were without Gareth Bale at Palace, with Mourinho revealing before kick-off that the Welshman was suffering with an illness.

“He was ill, not Covid, not even flu that keeps you in bed for a week," Mourinho said of the Real Madrid loanee, who has started just one league game since returning to north London in the summer.

“I believe for Wednesday he will be fine."
