Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho isn't giving up on keeping Jan Vertonghen.

The London Evening Standard reports Mourinho has indicated this morning he is hopeful that Vertonghen will sign a short-term contract extension until the end of the season.

The versatile Belgian defender has been at Spurs for eight years, but as it stands can walk away as a free agent on June 30.

June 23 is the deadline for those short-term agreements.

Vertonghen is in talks with Inter Milan about a Bosman move to Italy.
