Tottenham boss Mason delighted with 'excellent' victory over Wolves as Europa League looms

Tottenham Hotspur boosted their hopes of qualifying for the Europa League with a 2-0 win over Wolves.

Spurs are now five points adrift of a top-four place and leapfrog West Ham into sixth on goal difference.

It was a deserved win for Ryan Mason's side, who dominated proceedings before Harry Kane finally broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time.

The England captain connected on a superb through ball from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg before calmly finishing past Rui Patricio.

It was Hojbjerg who scored Tottenham's second by reacting to Patricio denying a shot from Gareth Bale.

Dele Alli was excellent for Spurs as they now look to finish in the Europa League places in what has been a poor season by their standards.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Mason said:"The most important thing is to win. Today our performance was excellent - we controlled the game.

"Our attacking players will be disappointed there weren't more goals - they deserved them.

"This is Tottenham Hotspur. We want to be playing in the biggest competition in the biggest games. This season hasn't gone to plan."
