Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi has snubbed reported interest from Tottenham to secure a return to La Liga side Real Sociedad.

When asked about the proposed switch, the 25 year old midfielder told Spanish newspaper AS that he was "very happy" to be heading back to the Basque club, who had always been his preferred destination once he fell down the pecking order in Madrid.

"Of course, I wanted to return, I haven't yet spoken to my teammates, later I will speak with them. Real [Sociedad] has always been my first option and I was really wanting to return home, of course," he explained.
