Tottenham announce Crystal Palace to open new stadium

Tottenham have announced they will play the first match at their new stadium against Crystal Palace next month.

Spurs have been made to wait to enter their 62,062-seater stadium, having initially planned to move in for the start of the season.

The first match was dependent on the FA Cup quarter-final ties this weekend - particularly Brighton's clash with Millwall.

Chris Hughton's men won a penalty shootout against the Championship side, meaning Spurs will play Crystal Palace on Wednesday April 3 in a midweek opener for the stadium and then Brighton at home later in the month on April 23/24.

Tottenham have confirmed they will hold two test events to gain the required safety certificates for the stadium to open fully.

The first event will take place on an March 24 as Tottenham U18s face Southampton with a capacity of around 30,000, kicking off at 3pm.

A Legends match will also be held on Match 30, with 45,000 people allowed to enter the stadium for the encounter.
