Tottenham ace Alderweireld proud of Premier League consistency rather than Team of the Year inclusion

Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld has stated that he is not particularly concerned about personal accolades.

Alderweireld has been arguably the best central defender in the Premier League this season and the Belgian's contribution was recently recognised when he earned a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

The 27-year-old is not getting carried away by the accolade though and has stated that he is not a player who craves individual compliments.

Alderweireld told Het Laatsete Nieuws: "I'm not a player who needs recognition if I'm honest.

"It's nice to hear those compliments, it makes you feel good, but I don't get a kick from praise - if you know what I mean.

"I'm happier that I have played two good seasons in a row in England. That's something to be proud of."
