Torres, Alvarado feature as Tigres edge Club America in Liga MX final

American natives Jose Torres and Ventura Alvarado both played a full 90 minutes as Tigres UANL defeated Club America 1-0 in the first leg of the Liga MX Apertura final.

Torres' Tigres will take a slender lead into the return bout after Joffre Guerron headed home the only goal in the 64th minute in Nuevo Leon after America defender Alvarado slipped in the build-up.

The Arizona-born full-back failed to hold down Tigres winger Damian Alvarez before the Mexican whipped in a neat cross for Guerron to finish. He was starting for just the fourth time for America.

27-year old Texas native Torres, a USA international, also went the distance as both clubs get set for the crunch second leg at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday.
