Toronto FC's Vanney, Bradley impressed by 'special' ex-Juventus ace Giovinco

Sebastian Giovinco kicked off his Toronto FC career with his first training session on Wednesday.

The 28-year old attacking midfielder, who signed with the MLS club from Juventus last month, was quick to impress his new coach and teammates when gracing the Canadian club's pre-season training with his presence.

TFC head coach Greg Vanney spoke highly of Giovinco after the session and is confident he can bring with him to the BMO Field the qualities that served him so well during his time in his homeland with the Bianconeri, Empoli, Parma and the Italian national team.

"I'm very pleased," Vanney said of the diminutive midfielder who is nicknamed the 'Atomic Ant'.

"It's what I had seen of him when we were doing all our scouting. He's very quick and nifty in the pockets, in those little tight spaces. He gets himself facing forward and he's shifty. He can unbalance defenders and create little fractions of time in areas where a lot of guys can't.

"His vision around the field to bring other people into the game is special."

In addition, newly-appointed Toronto captain Michael Bradley suggested Giovinco would seemingly slot right into the line-up as the Reds continue to prepare for the 2015 MLS season.

"Good players find ways to fit right in, and he certainly is a very good player," Bradley added.

"As we all get to know each other a little bit better and he becomes more comfortable with the group and the locker room, it will get better and better but I thought, for his first day, training with the group, he didn't waste any time."
