Torino coach Mihajlovic brands Maxi Lopez 'overweight'

Torino coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has branded Maxi Lopez "overweight".

The Granata face Empoli on Sunday.

The coach said of Maxi: “He's in bad shape. I thank him because he grit his teeth to play against Atalanta, but I spoke to Maxi the other day and told him if a player manages to do things with an extra 7kg, which is like carrying a washing machine, imagine what he can do when in good shape.

“The reason he gets injured is because he's overweight and the training we do hurts him. He has to lose weight.

“The first person who should be angry is him. He needs to lose weight or he won't play. This isn't the Maxi I know and who I had at Catania and Sampdoria.

“He is on a special diet and knows that every week he needs to lose 1kg. He has to do it. Every week he'll be weighed and we'll see if he's lost 1kg. If he has, good, if not then he will hear from me.

“Tomorrow Lucas Boyé will play, above all because we've got no other options. He has quality and hunger, so I believe in him."
