Top four achievable for Arsenal - Keown

Martin Keown has played down Arsenal's title hopes ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Gunners finished second behind shock title winners Leicester City last term but having only brought in Granit Xhaka as their only major signing, Arsene Wenger's men could struggle to compete with the firepower of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

Regarding Arsenal's premiership chances for 2016/17, former club captain Keown wrote in the Daily Mail: “With the addition of Euro 2016 standout Granit Xhaka, Arsene Wenger has an abundance of midfield talent at his disposal.

“They needed something extra in there and Xhaka looks like he can do it all.

“In finishing second they will feel like they were only one step away from the title, but in reality they were 10 points behind Leicester and there are plenty of question marks.

“Chief of which is who is going to play up front. Olivier Giroud came out of the Euros with a lot of credit, but to recreate fear among Premier League defenders they need pace in that central area.

“If they add a couple of players they should have a good season. I don't think they can compete with City's cash, but a place in the top four is achievable."
