Tiote eager to lift Newcastle

Cheick Tiote is hoping to use the weekend's narrow 1-0 victory over Aston Villa as stepping stone to more positive results.

The Magpies recorded their first Premier League win in five outings when Loic Remy netted an injury-time winner at St James' Park on the weekend and midfielder Tiote wants to use it as motivation for the remainder of the season.

"Every game is important," the Ivorian Coast international told reporters.

"We are in a good position but, if we win each game, we have a chance to finish in a better position.

"It's going to be hard but we need to believe and try to win every game. We have to try to do that.

"We've got more confidence now. We hadn't won for a few games. We didn't play as a team and we conceded too many goals. We take that to the next game."

Newcastle currently sit eighth in England's top flight ahead of the weekend's trip to 11th-placed Hull City.
