Why would Ander Herrera swap Manchester United, a club where he is loved by staff and fans alike, for more money and less playing time?
That is the question being posed by Class of 92' graduate Ben Thornley, who has spoke with Tribalfootball in an exclusive interview.
29-year-old Herrera was one of many United players who were in-and-out of Jose Mourinho's starting XI during a turbulent first half of the season.
Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Mourinho in December, Herrera has become an important component of United's midfield, helping provide the perfect balance alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba.
The Spaniard's importance to Solskjaer has left him in a strong bargaining position with the club, and so far, he has been unimpressed with United's long-term contract offer.
PSG are reportedly keen on Herrera as manager Thomas Tuchel looks to strengthen his midfield this summer.
However, Thornley is adamant Herrera will remain at Old Trafford.
The former United winger, who works an analyst for MUTV, has spoken with Herrera personally in the past and believes the tenacious midfielder harbours a deep fondness for the club.
Thornley told Tribalfootball: "I've been reading about that this morning on social media, where they've said he's already signed a pre-contract with PSG.
"I don't know Ander Herrera wonderfully well, but the one or two times I've had conversations with him and spoke to him, he seems like a player who is absolutely stuck on being at Manchester United.
"He's in the team having had a quite a lengthy spell in and out of the team over recent seasons he's now consolidated his place alongside Pogba and Matic in that three-man midfield, which I think is United's strongest three.
"Now for me, I can't see he is going to join PSG. I'm sure, like everybody else, he's excited of where Manchester United are going and I'm pretty sure that he would want to be part of that."
Reports on Monday claimed Herrera has already signed a pre-contract agreement to join the Parisians at the end of this season.
The offer is reportedly worth £170k-a-week, which is close to double what United have offered.
But Thornley is adamant Herrera would be losing much more than money if he were to leave Manchester.
He added: "Listen, alright if he's going to get an extra £50k a week is that any sort of consolation if he's not guaranteed to start week-in, week-out? Does it really matter if you are earning £150k a week or £200k a week? You're still not going to struggle to pay the bills at the end of the day.
"I just feel as though he would do best to stay in a club where he's loved, a club that he loves and a club where the supporters feel as though he's an integral part of what Manchester United can achieve."
