Phil Thompson has turned down the assistant manager's job at Aston Villa.

The former Liverpool caretaker manager was wanted at Villa Park by ex-Reds boss Gerard Houllier.

However, the Daily Mail says Thompson has rejected the proposal of rejoining Houllier at Villa.
