Thomas Vermaelen thrilled to (finally) make Barcelona debut

Thomas Vermaelen was delighted to make his debut for Barcelona in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Deportivo La Coruna.

The former Arsenal captain finally graced the Nou Camp after a first season plagued by hamstring problems.

"I only ask the fans to be patient," said the defender.

"I understand the criticism I've received, but it has been a very difficult season for me. I am convinced that next season will be much better.

"I had a good feeling and I really enjoyed playing football again.

"I am very ambitious and I am sure we will end up achieving more success this season."

Barcelona goalkeeper Jordi Masip also made his La Liga debut.

"I am delighted," said Masip.

"I am aware of where I am. I've played very little but I feel privileged."
