EnergyAustralia Stadium is abuzz just over an hour out from kick-off for the Newcastle Jets v LA Galaxy exhibition match.

Fans are flocking to the Broadmeadow venue to see football superstar David Beckham and his Galaxy teammates take on their beloved Jets on a picture perfect evening which will attract just over 22,000 supporters.

The vibe around Newcastle has been enormous in the past few days with locals seeing it as a fantastic opportunity to enhance the reputation of the harbor city.

One local said it was a 'major' event for the Hunter region which will get worldwide coverage.

"Beckham and the Galaxy coming here is a major happening for Newcastle," the source said. "Not for a long, long time have we had somebody of his notoriety in our town and I can only imagine what the exposure is doing for Newcastle and the Hunter as a whole."

The match kicks off at 7:30pm and is sure to provide plenty of thrills for the Newcastle faithful who have turned out in droves to support the event.
