Legendary Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Alves has finalised his transfer to LaLiga Santander side RC Celta.

Known for his incredible ability to guess the intentions of penalty takers from the spot, he will be back under the crossbars of LaLiga stadiums, where he already made his mark at both Valencia CF and UD Almería.

Now 37, he will look to step in for the injured Agustin Marchesin between the sticks at ABANCA Balaídos.

Alves first landed in LaLiga Santander in 2011 with UD Almería, after beginning his career with Atlético Mineiro in Brazil. He took just a few months to make his mark, breaking former Real Madrid star Iker Casillas' record and going 618 minutes without conceding.

He quickly developed a reputation as one of Spanish football's top goalkeepers and continued breaking records. In his debut season, he set a new record for the most penalties saved in a single LaLiga Santander season (seven, from 13) – including one against Cristiano Ronaldo, no less.

In four season in Andalusia, he saved 10 penalties from 18 for the club, an impressive 55% success rate.

His top form for UD Almeria earned Alves a move to giants Valencia CF in 2011, where his abilities gained worldwide traction and he earned a call-up to the Brazilian national team. Despite suffering a serious knee injury in 2015, his spell at Valencia was characterised by more incredible exploits between the sticks.

He left the club in 2017 as the keeper with the most penalty saves in LaLiga Santander history, with 22 saves from 47 spot-kicks – a mindblowing 48% success rate – among them penalties from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr.

Now he's back in LaLiga Santander, looking to add to his incredible record.
