Tension is growing between Barcelona and young midfielder Ilaix Moriba over his contract situation.

Marca says Barca are refusing to give in with regard to the punishment handed out to the 18-year-old for refusing to accept the terms of a new deal, and he will continue to work with the B side instead of the first team.

This underlines the difference in opinion between the two parties. Ilaix's current contract runs until 2022, with negotiations having come to a standstill, and as long as the situation isn't resolved he won't return to the first team - something Barcelona are adamant about.

However, Ilaix is attracting attention from around Europe, above all the Premier League, with Manchester City and Chelsea both monitoring the situation closely.

The situation is tense and is getting more and more complex the days pass. A far from ideal situation just three weeks before the start of the new season.
