Ten Hag addresses Man Utd players: Third place not enough

Manchester United must improve on their first season under boss Erik Ten Hag.

That is according to the man himself, with Ten Hag stating that his team cannot rest on their laurels.

The Dutch coach is celebrating United reaching the Champions League by finishing third in the Premier League, while they have won the Carabao Cup and still have an FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Speaking at United's end-of-season awards dinner, Ten Hag said: “We have seen it before the season, after the start of the season, and then where we came from – we are happy, we are in the right direction, but satisfied? No, we are not.

“We have to do better, that's always the case. We have a foundation, we have a good base. But we have to do better. This season, we still have one game to go and it's a great opportunity to make the next big step.

“But then, after summer, we have to increase our standards, to do even better. And you know, the competition is tough, our competitors will also reach higher levels. So we have to do at least the same, but I don't think it's good enough. You have to do much better.

“We don't want to stay here. We want to go higher up, we want to increase our levels and we want to compete for the top two. So we have to demand more and increase our levels."
