Teixeira cannot understand why Shakhtar rejected Liverpool offer

Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Alex Teixeira has described the the Ukrainian club's decision not to accept Liverpool's offer for his services as 'frustrating'.

Sky Sports is reporting Shakhtar turned down a formal bid from the Merseyside club for the 26-year-old Brazilian because it fell short of their exuberant £35milllion valuation of the player.

"The team received one official offer from Liverpool. It was rejected. I don't know why," Teixeira told NBC Sports.

"It was a great offer. It is frustrating. But the manager and the club president decided against it. So now I am just waiting, trying to be patient.

"Liverpool is a huge club. So many great players have passed through there. It would be an honour to defend the Liverpool shirt.

"I know my agent is still attempting everything possible to help me get to Liverpool."

Teixeira, who has scored 26 goals in 26 outings for Shakhtar this season, also expressed his desire to again play with former teammate Philippe Coutinho at Anfield.

"I've played with Coutinho since we were 10 years old. It would be a lot of fun to play with him again," he added.
