Taylor aiming to make Newcastle comeback next month

Newcastle United's transfer-listed defender Steven Taylor is aiming for a mid-October return.

The former England Under-21 skipper, slapped on the transfer list after failing to agree a new contract, has penciled in the visit of Wigan on October 16 for his return.

But first of all 24-year-old Taylor, almost recovered from a dislocated shoulder - and his representatives, the Triple S agency - must convince the Magpies top brass of his desire to remain on Tyneside.

Owner Mike Ashley put the much-coveted Taylor up for transfer after Triple S rejected a contract offer that would have broken Newcastle's existing £35,000-a-week wage ceiling.

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has pointedly stated that it was "the club" that had transfer-listed Taylor.
